O trabalho da artista Wangechi Mutu é, por falta de palavra melhor, polêmico. Suas colagens beiram ao surrealismo e futurismo, com traços da tradicional arte africana. Fica claro que ela é feminista e se interessa pela representação da sexualidade feminina de uma forma chocante e até grotesca. Seus trabalhos, ainda que tenham inspirações africanas, vão contra o tradicional ao representar a mulher e o sexo. Essa diferença é inovadora.

Visualmente, alguns de seus trabalhos são interessantes e intrigantes, mas o resultado quase sempre é esteticamente pertubador. Sua série de colagens focada na feminilidade na atual África, na quais todas possuem nomes de doenças do sistema reprodutor feminino, é especialmente de mau-gosto. Obras com nomes como "Câncer do Útero" tem o objetivo de ser inovadoras e quebrar paradigmas, mas acabam apenas sendo desconfortáveis.

Wangechi Mutu's work is, for lack of a better word, polemic. Her collages tend to the surrealism and futurism, with traces of the traditional african art. It's quite clear that she is a feminist and takes interest in the portrayal of female sexuality in a shoking and eve grotesque way. Her works, while having african inspirations, go against the traditional while portraying the woman and the sex. This difference is innovative.

Visually, some of her works are interesting and intriguing, but the final result is almost always aesthetically disturbing. Her series of collages focused on the femininity in modern Africa, in which all of the works have names of diseases of thefemale reproductive system, is specially in poor taste. Collages with names like "Utherus Cancer" want to be inovative and break paradigms, but end being just plain uncomfortable.
